Normal day. Still getting over this cough. I feel fine just have a phlegmy cough that is not very attractive. I sat in the Sauna and steamed some Eucalyptus to help clear out the lungs and sinus. I haven’t been training since Wednesday of last week to give my body time to rest, i’m really bored. Need to train!
Second day of Carnivore. Went a lot better today being at home and having more control over what I was eating. I grilled up a bunch of hamburger and cooked 4 steaks in my Sous Vide … ate two of them (wife ate one) and have 2.5 ribeye steaks for the next couple days.
First full day of 100% compliance on the Carnivore Diet. Today was tough because we took a road trip up to Prescott/Jerome AZ so I had to wing it most of the day.
Breakfast was a typical egg scramble for me.
We stopped at Safeway and I bought some shredded dark meat chicken, 6 hard boiled eggs, and a pack of cheese slices. I put them in a cold bag and snacked on them during the drive.
We ate dinner in Jerome and I ordered a burger added an extra patty and didn’t eat anything but the burger, cheese and eggs.
I drank water and Iced tea… not sure if Iced Tea counts, but i’m lumping it in the “Coffee is OK” logical category.
I feel great, no cravings yesterday. My stomach felt great, no discomfort and no bloating or gas. Typically I fart at least a few times a day… not yesterday.
I’m hungry this morning as usual. Just drank some black coffee.
I’ve decided to transition to the Carnivore/Zero Carb style of nutrition for at least 30-45 days to see how it goes. The intention of this transition is to see if I experience any sort of benefit from the complete elimination of plant antigens and any plant based foods that may be causing allergic reactions or autoimmune responses.
Check out Dr. Shaw Baker’s book – “The Carnivore Diet” available on Amazon.com
This nutrition program has been described as an extreme “Elimination Diet” which is a tool used to identify foods that cause issues in an attempt to build a customized nutrition program for an individual.
Just ordered my Food Sensitivity test, hopefully I’m not sensitive to Meat haha
I also have relatively recent lab work which tested my Cholesterol and other metabolic indicators. I’m going to retest after 45 days of Carnivore and see if anything changed.
I’m also going to continue to monitor Ketones and Blood Pressure over the 30-45 days.
The Plan:
2500-3000 calories / day – Target Daily Energy Expedeture (TDEE) and caloric intake goal.
Approx 200-225 grams protein / day
Approx 185-200 grams fat / day (Fat at 1:1 Fat/Protein Cal Ratio)
20-25 grams Collagen / day – 10 grams for every 100 grams of protein.
First day moving into Carnivore / Zero Carb territory. Only plant based items were the MCT oil in the morning and the Guiness in the evening. Today I’m going to be 💯
I make one of these microwave scrambles almost every day at the office. With practice they always turn out awesome and can be made in less than 5 minutes. Co-workers are always commenting on how awesome my breakfast looks, its really not that hard.
Step 1 – Crack some skulls… I mean eggs. I usually do 4 max but you can do less just keep in mind that the time will decrease with less eggs.
I like using this wide mouth 16oz jars
Scramble thoroughly with fork.
The metal jar lids will start to rust if you use them too much. I bought these plastic lids which are easier to clean.
Today I’m adding some leftover ingredients from last nights dinner. Sauteed onions, jalapenos, 1/2 hamburger patty, 1/2 slice of bacon.
You can use your imagination, put whatever you want in. Just keep in mind the more things you put in the more time its going to take to cook.
I added the bacon and ground beef first and will add the onions and jalapenos a bit later. You can add them all up front if you want.
I always add 1/2oz of cheese which helps with the texture.
Mix it up
Place in center of microwave (I know this microwave is gross but its the office microwave and some people don’t think its necessary to clean up after themselves)
This is a big scramble so I’m starting the time at 1:30 and will check after about a minute to stir if needed. I’m using full power.
This is a 1500 watt microwave. If you have a lower power microwave you may need to adjust the time.
I stopped with 22 seconds left, you have to watch it and stir when you start to see it cooking.
Just mix it up.
Starting to be a bit scrambled!
Back in, I usually just hit the +30 seconds button and start it 30 seconds at a time.
Pulled it out after 30.
Time to add the onion and jalapeno (this is optional)
Back in for 30 seconds
Watch it the whole time, do
not just put it in for 30 and think you can let it go. You must mix it consistently for it to turn out.
Starting to firm up, keep mixing to distribute the moisture.
Keep mixing!
Hitting that “Add 30” button to start with 30 seconds.
Looks good. I can’t stress this enough, you must keep an eye on it the whole time and mix when it starts to firm up. It can actually come out the top and overflow like a egg volcano if you don’t pay attention.
CAUITION!! – The jar will be pretty hot. I usually use paper towels to hold it.
Mix one last time and then dump your eggs out on a plate.
I like to immediately top with 1/2 oz cheese.
mmm melty.
IMPORTANT! – While the jar is warm wash it out and scrape out all the eggs. This is super important because it will be a HUGE pain in the ass to clean if you let it cool and dry.
Clean it thoroughly, you’ll be glad you did. Also, clean up the sink and counter and don’t leave a mess, you’re not an animal.
A clean jar is a happy jar!
Finally, eat that scramble! I like to add hot sauce 🙂
Fighting against low recovery yesterday. Got a solid kettlebell workout in at lunch. Decided to rest instead of hitting BJJ after work. Took a nice nap on the couch when I got home. Feeling much better today.
Big training day. Completed a workout from the Onnit6 Kettlebell program at lunch. After work I trained at GB Ahwatukee for over 2 hours. Fundamentals Gi then NoGi class with about 5 or 6 rounds of sparring. Felt great.
