IG Thirst Traps

Gold 🥇 at the IBJJF Phoenix Open. Glad I could be there to help team @gbarizona72 get 1st place overall for Gi. Thanks to my #1 fan @ytfelmi and @luis_piugb who I can always count on to be there for me and help me do my best. Thanks to @gbahwatukee72 and all my awesome friends and tough training partners. Thanks to @combatsupps for keeping me on my game and @soapazon for keeping me fresh.

Last weekend I competed in a tournament, my first competition at Purple Belt. It's been a difficult couple of months, I've been struggling physically and having a tough time mentally. Life hits you hard sometimes and staying on track can be so difficult. I've been going through some difficult things trying to find meaning in what I do, professionally and personally. Jiu Jitsu has been something that has brought so much balance and order to my life. This tournament was another opportunity to grow and push through when the things outside the gym are not lining up to help you perform your best. This was the first tournament where I was able to sit where my Professor, Friend and Mentor Luis sits, to lose my voice coaching the Jrs and kids that were competing. To be there for the team was amazing. To contribute to something bigger than myself gave me such an amazing feeling, true fulfillment. It's been such an honor to have Luis trust me to help coach and help these kids. He's been such an amazing example, he truly cares about everyone at our school and I want to live up to his example. It never ceases to amaze me how all the Professors and Coaches at Gracie Barra work so hard and care so much and I'm honored to be included in their ranks. Helping these kids in their successes and their setbacks and being there for them through such an emotional and physical experience as a tournament is truly incredible. I feel like I’ve begun another chapter in my journey which is such an important part of Gracie Barra as an organization which is giving back to our community, to help those who are just starting their journey and be there for those who need me. It's really quite hard to capture this feeling, but service to others is the essence of what Gracie Barra stands for and it's an honor to be a part of it.

Very excited to celebrate the four year anniversary of our school @gbahwatukee72 it's truly been an honor to be a part of this community. I received my purple belt today after 4 years of training. Jiu Jitsu has become such an important part of my life. It challenges and keeps me strong, mentally and physically. It makes me a better person in all areas of my life. I have made some of my deepest friendships, especially my Professor, mentor and brother @luis_piugb and my Coach now Professor Thiago Aso. My teammates at GB Ahwatukee are amazing, and it's truly incredible to be surrounded by such great people, who challenge you every day and are truly interested in helping you get better. I'm very grateful my amazing and beautiful wife is so supportive of my BJJ, she is my number one fan and always there for me when I compete, and need extra encouragement. I've been honored to become a Coach and help the Kids and Adults at our school improve their lives through Jiu Jitsu. It's truly an honor. Thank you everyone. Heres to the next chapter 💪
